What is Craniosacral Therapy ?
Craniosacral Therapy (CST), is a light touch therapy that can create dramatic improvements. It releases tensions deep in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction and improves whole – body health.
The central nervous system has a lot of influence over your health and well being. Few body systems have more impact on the central nervous system than the craniosacral system – the soft tissues and fluid that surround and protect your brain and spinal cord. The body absorbs stresses and strains over time and your body can only endure so much stress and strain, before the tissues begin to tighten and affect the brain and spinal cord. Unfortunately, this can compromise the function of the central nervous system and nearly every other system in the body. CST releases those tensions to allow the entire body to relax and self- correct. Using a gentle touch- practitioners evaluate your internal environment. Distinctive light – touch techniques are used to release any restrictions they find. CST naturally eliminates pain, stress, strengthens your resistance to disease, and enhances overall well being, by freeing the central nervous system to perform at it’s best. Because of it;s gentlesness it can be effective for all ages. |
My son, has bee seeing Darlene for CST. It has been fantastic for all his hockey injuries. Darlene worked on my son after a concussion, and it helped him heal so much faster. |
How Did CranioSacral Therapy Begin?
CST was pioneered and developed by Osteopathic physician John E. Upledger. Dr Upledger served from 1975 – 1983 as a clinical researcher and professor of Biomechanics at the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Michigan State University. Along with his team of anatomists, physiologists, biophysicists and bioengineers they performed experiments testing the existence and influence of the craniosacral system. The results of those scientific studies explained the function of the craniosacral system and it’s use in evaluating and treating malfunctions.

What Can I Expect From a Session?
A CST session takes place in a quiet, safe, private setting. You remain fully clothed, as you relax on a comfortable, padded table. Your therapist begins by gently touching, various parts of your body to monitor the rhythm of the fluid flowing around your central nervous system. By listening with the hands, your practitioner can trace areas of weakness through the body, to the source of dysfunction. Delicate manual techniques are used to release those problem areas, and improve the form and function of your central nervous system. Sessions are generally deeply relaxing creating feelings of warmth or gentle pulsing in the areas being worked on. |
Somato Emotional Release
Cranio Sacral Therapy (CST) releases restrictions in the body tissues, but there are times when a release of emotional energy is necessary to fully discharge a trauma from the body. In some cases the Cranio Sacral therapist may gently encourage a Somato Emotional Release.
The client does not need to analyze the problem to release it.
